Antioxidants are protective chemicals which are involved in disease prevention and overall good health management. Antioxidants are anti-inflammatory, immune supportive and anti-cancer and have a role to play in both protecting us from developing chronic health conditions, and in managing these conditions. Such conditions include but are not limited to; cancer, heart disease, neurological diseases including Alzheimer’s and autoimmune conditions.
Try to consume plenty of antioxidant rich foods / drinks / herbs & spices on a daily basis. Variety is key as different foods/ drinks contain different types of antioxidants, all of which have specific benefits. Some of the richest food sources of antioxidants include;
Fruits including; All types of berries, apples, pomegranate, plums, prunes, pears, red grapes, dried fruits, guava, oranges, cherries, Baobab fruit, moringa fruit
- White, green & black tea
- Vegetables including; Red peppers, Broccoli, artichoke, kale, Brussels sprouts, tomatoes (strictly a fruit), beetroot, alfafa, Carrots, Spinach, garlic, cabbage, onions
- Beans & lentils
- Nuts and seeds including; walnuts, pecans, flaxseeds, hazelnuts, pistachios
- Cocoa & Dark chocolate (at least 70% cocoa content)
- Herbs & spices including; cloves, cinnamon, turmeric, oregano, cumin, parsley, basil, coriander (fresh)
